The German city of Bremen, together with the city of Düsseldorf, introduced the environmental zones in 2009. Specifically, from the 1. 1. 2009 only vehicles with a valid red, yellow or green badge were allowed to enter the city. A year later, vehicles with a red sticker were banned and from mid-2011 also those with a yellow sticker.
Bremen cares about its air quality and being a peaceful city so allows entry only to the most environmentally friendly vehicles.

From 1. 7. 2011, all drivers need a green badge to enter Bremen. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles with a minimum level of air pollution that falls under the Euro 4 and Euro 1 emissions classes for diesel and petrol, respectively. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 80 euros. The low-emissions zone of Bremen includes the historic core of the city, the eastern part and the urban areas of Schwachhausen and Neustadt.
