The date of introduction of the environmental zones in Hagen

  • from 1.1. 2012 – entry allowed only to vehicles with a red, yellow and green environmental badge
  • from 1.1. 2013 – entry allowed only to vehicles with a yellow and green environmental badge
  • from 1.7. 2014 – entry allowed only to vehicles with a green environmental badge

Hagen first introduced the low-emissions zone in January 2012, since when the city has tightened the conditions. The reason for introducing this zone is to prevent cars from entering that emit a high concentration of nitrogen oxides and severely deteriorate both the quality of the air and of life for Hagen´s citizens.
From 1st July 2014, both German and foreign drivers are obliged to have the highest, i.e. green environmental badge placed on the windscreen of the vehicle.

Which types of vehicles are affected?

The obligation to own the environmental badge applies to both German and foreign passenger cars (M1); motorhomes (M1); heavy campers (M1); minibuses (M2); buses (M3); small transporters (N1); transporters (N2); trucks (N2); and heavy goods vehicles (N3).

Are you going to Hagen by car?

From 1.7. 2014, to enter Hagen, all drivers, i.e. both German and foreign, need to purchase a green plaque. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles that produce a minimum level of air pollution that falls under the Euro 4 (diesel) or Euro 1 (petrol) emissions classes. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 80 €.
The low-emissions zone of Hagen includes - the historic city centre, Eckesey, Altenhagen, Ischeland, Loxbaum, Hochschulviertel and Feithstraße; the districts of Eppenhausen, Remberg, Oberhagen, Eilpe to Selbecker Straße, including Wehringhausen along the Rehstraße.
