The date of introduction of environmental zones in Hannover

  • From 1.1. 2008 – entry allowed with red, yellow or green environmental badge
  • From 1.1. 2009 – entry allowed with yellow or green environmental badge
  • From 1.1. 2010 – entry allowed only with green environmental badge

The environmental zones in Hannover came into force on the same day as in Berlin, on the 1. 1. 2008, from which date only vehicles with a red, yellow or green sticker were allowed to enter the city. A year later, however, vehicles with a red sticker were banned from entering. Since 1. 1. 2010, only vehicles with a green badge placed on the windshield may enter the city.
Munich also introduced the environmental zones in 2008.

Are you going to Hannover by car?

From 1. 1. 2010, all drivers need a green badge to enter Hannover. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles with a minimum level of air pollution that falls under the Euro 4 and Euro 1 emissions classes for diesel and petrol, respectively. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 80 euros. The low-emissions zone of Hannover includes the city centre with adjacent surroundings. Its border is comprised of highways on the west, south and east, and to the north the Sahlkamp neighbourhood.
