The low-emissions zone of Regensburg is one of the latest in Germany. The reason for its introduction was the continued and regular breaking of emissions limits in recent years.
Thus, in 2018, a low-emissions zone with the strictest conditions was introduced in Regensburg, where only drivers with a green environmental badge placed on the windscreen of a passenger car or a truck may drive.
Which types of vehicles are affected?
The obligation to own the environmental badge applies to both German and foreign passenger cars (M1); motorhomes (M1); heavy campers (M1); minibuses (M2); buses (M3); small transporters (N1); transporters (N2); trucks (N2); and heavy goods vehicles (N3).

From 15.1.2018, both German and foreign drivers need the green badge to enter Regensburg. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles that produce a minimum level of air pollution that falls under the Euro 4 (diesel) or Euro 1 (petrol) emissions classes. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 80 €.
The Regensburg low-emissions zone includes the central, historic area of the city, including the Thurn and Taxis Castle with its adjacent park. Conversely, the Friedenstraße highway and Stadtamhof are not included in the low-emissions zone.
