As of 1st January, 2013, to enter Ulm in Baden-Württemberg is possible only with the green environmental badge on the windscreen. The aim is to improve the quality of the air and the life of the population in the municipality and the region. Only vehicles that contribute a minimal amount to the increase in the nitrogen concentration are allowed to enter. Restrictions apply both to cars and trucks with German or foreign license plates.
Which types of vehicles are affected?
The obligation to own the environmental badge applies to both German and foreign passenger cars (M1); motorhomes (M1); heavy campers (M1); minibuses (M2); buses (M3); small transporters (N1); transporters (N2); trucks (N2); and heavy goods vehicles (N3).

Are you going to Ulm by car?
From 1.1.2013, both German and foreign drivers need the green badge to enter Ulm. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles that produce the lowest level of air pollution that meet at least the Euro 4 (diesel) or Euro 1 (petrol) emissions classes.
Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 80 €.
The Ulm low-emissions zone is bordered by the Berliner Ring, the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring, the Danube River and Böfingen city district.
