About Green Zones in Leipzig

Green Zone in Leipzig, Germany

Leipzig, in a similar way to the German city of Erfurt, which introduced the environmental zones in 2012, passed straight to a green badge. Immediately after the introduction of the zones, cars with a red or yellow sticker were not allowed into the city. Only cars with a green badge are allowed entry.
Yet most German cities (Berlin and Munich, for example) initially permitted entrance to less environmentally friendly vehicles.

Driving in Leipzig

Are you going to Leipzig by car?

From 1. 1. 2012, all drivers need a green badge to enter Leipzig. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles with a minimum level of air pollution that falls under the Euro 4 and Euro 1 emissions classes for diesel and petrol, respectively. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 100 euros. The low-emissions zone of Leipzig covers the vast majority of the city’s territory and is bordered by the A14 motorway to the north and the A38 motorway to the south.
