Osnabrück first introduced the low-emissions zone in January 2010 when it also allowed less environmentally friendly cars with the red plaque to enter. Over the coming years, following the example of other German cities, it has been tightening the conditions regarding vehicle emissions limits. From January 2012, entry is allowed only to cars with the green environmental badge.
In 2008, environmental zones were introduced also, for example, in Hannover and Munich, so to obtain an environmental sticker will certainly pay off.
From 3.1. 2012, all drivers, i.e. both German and foreign, need the green plaque to enter Osnabrück. Entrance is therefore allowed only to vehicles that produce the lowest level of air pollution that meet the Euro 4 (diesel) or Euro 1 (petrol) emissions classes. Failure to comply with these rules is punished in Germany with a fine of 100 €.
The Osnabrück low-emission zone includes the city centre and Westerberg, Weststadt, Kalkhügel, Schölerberg and Schinkel districts.
