Besides in Paris, low-emissions zones have been introduced in Lille and other cities. From the 1st April, 2017, drivers of foreign vehicles need an environmental badge to enter Lille. This is the so-called emergency low-emissions zone (ZPA), which comes into force in cases of exceptionally bad emissions conditions.
As in Germany, Austria and other European countries, France is striving to improve the environment and the quality of life of the citizens of larger cities.
You can read more about the types of environmental badges in the section Types of Environmental Badges.
From 1. 4. 2017, foreign cars must be marked with the “crit’air” environmental badge. This so-called emergency low-emissions zone takes effect whenever the level of smog notably increases. Only vehicles with the crit’air plaque of classes E, 1, 2, and 3 will most likely be allowed to enter the activated low-emissions zone. There are 6 types of badge in France that express how much the vehicle is involved in air pollution.
The low-emissions zone of Lille includes a total of 12 municipalities: Lille, Hellemmes, Lambersart, Lezennes, Lomme, La Madeleine, Marcq-en-Baroeul, Marquette-Lez-Lille, Mons-en-Baroeul, Ronchin, Saint-André-lez-Lille and Lille Sequedin. Prohibitions and restrictions will not apply to the main roads A1, A22, A25, N227 and D652.
